Do you have any big audio files? You could try compressing them...
none of the audio files are big enough to make the swf THAT big
Make sure all audio files are being STREAMED at 128KBS and are either .MP3s or .WAVs.
streamed at 112 kbs, as mp3s
Under publish settings, generate a file size report and go through that and see where the filesize hogs are in your file
ooooo.... that makes me sick to my stomach :(
that definitely pin-pointed the problem. but brought an entirely new one to my attention.
Cache as bitmap just converts the things to images upon export but i'm not sure if it affects the file size, you'd have to play with it.
I recommend trying PNG's as well, with your calibur of BG art it will probably really save your ass
k, ill look into that. thanks a heap
The biggest record of a file size on Newgrounds is almost 30 MB, so you do have a big problem. Well... you could try:
1- Converting sound and music from .wma to mp3..
2- Making the flash shorter.
3- Compressing the whole thing online.
4- Converting Photoshop drawings and .png to .jpg..
5- Don't include to much unnecessary drawings or background objects.
I hope these methods helped you.
If you can take a snippet that is a large size and put the FLA on Dumping Grounds, send me the link and I'll figure out what is making it so big. Save as Flash 8 if possible, or CS3 is ok if it has to be.

make all of your backgrounds into PNG's in photoshop? Use a buttload of transparent PNG's too for loads of stuff idk :/

you told me about "cache as bitmap" would that vastly increase the file size, even if it makes the swf run smoother?
